The house was built in the late 16th century thanks to the efforts of Zofia and Wilhelm Alanth, and with the financial support of Gdańsk merchants, who with time became the owners of the house. The original building had arcades and a spacious room with a wood-beamed ceiling, but the structure was remodelled on several occasions. At the end of the 19th century, it housed an inn called “Under the canary”. In 1959, the building was dismantled due to a construction disaster, and then rebuilt.
